The Itinerary

Day 1

Meet & Greet/ Local Flight Lusaka to Mfuwe

You’ll book an international flight to Zambia’s Lusaka International Airport (LUN). Our representative will greet you upon arrival and assist you in checking your luggage on your local flight from Lusaka International Airport to Mfuwe Airport in South Luangwa National Park.

A Flatdogs Camp guide will meet you at Mfuwe Airport and take you to Flatdogs Safari Camp in the South Luangwa National Park, one of the world’s last great wildlife wonders.

After a 45-minute drive to the camp, you will check-in and relax before dinner is served later in the evening then bedtime at your chosen time.

Days 2-4

Exploring South Luangwa National Park

You’ll have three full days to explore South Luangwa National Park, either on game drives or on foot as part of a walking safari. Your days will begin with a delicious breakfast, followed by a morning activity such as a game drive safari or a walking safari, followed by a return to the camp for lunch and free time to relax.

Afternoon tea will be served before the afternoon/evening game drive, which will begin with afternoon game viewing and then transition into a night safari with the use of spotlights in search of nocturnal animals after dark.

You will then return to the camp almost on time for dinner, and then to your preferred bedtime.

Day 5

Game Drive transfer from South Luangwa

Breakfast will be served before your Luambe Camp Guide/Drive meets you at Flatdogs to begin your journey to Luambe National Park. Enjoy a 4-hour road trip that will give you plenty of time to take in the new scenery, varied wildlife, and amazing birdlife you’ll see along the way.

After that, you’ll check-in, get lunch served, and then have time to relax and enjoy the closer-to-nature experience. Then there will be tea/coffee, followed by a late afternoon/early evening safari activity, before returning to the camp almost in time for dinner and a later bedtime.

Days 6-8

Explore Luambe National Park

This is your great opportunity to explore the amazing Luambe National Park during these days, and here is a list of things you can do during your stay:

Morning (5:00 am – 9:30 am) – Wake up to various birdcalls and the grunting hippo as they welcome a new day in the beautiful Luangwa Valley while enjoying a quick coffee with biscuits. Then, the early mornings are a great time for mammal monitoring drive with the Luambe guides or ZCP (when available). Other great morning activities include anti-poaching walks, coffee with the carmine bee-eaters OR walking the camera trap circuit to check on the night’s activity!

Midday Siesta (11 am – 2 pm) – This is your time to relax! Have a rest in your tent, or grab your binoculars and spot the birdlife from under the shade of a tree. Alternatively, spend time in the main area with our team learning more about the history of the project, looking at what was caught on the camera traps or updating the leopard family tree. A tasty lunch will be on offer at the camp before heading out for your late afternoon game drive.

Late afternoon / early evening (3 pm – 8 pm) – The late afternoon is a great time to walk the Luangwa listening to the hippos before finishing with sundowners OR heading to Chitingulu village to learn about life for the communities you live next to National Parks. Your evening will be spent relaxing in camp, with a sundowner in hand, watching the pinky sunsets over the river while listening to the antics of the hippo followed by a delicious 3-course meal in the dining area. After dinner, it is a great opportunity to listen and record the bat activity in camp for those with an interest in the smaller, more unique creatures of Luambe!

Day 9

Transfer to Mfuwe Airport / Local Flight

Breakfast will be served first, then check out of the camp and you will be transferred to Mfuwe Airport and a local flight to Lusaka where you will connect with your outbound flight.

On arrival at Lusaka International airport, you will be greeted by our representative who will then assist you in checking in for your outbound flight.

Well organized, amazing safari Robert helped us plan every detail of our first safari/trip to Africa. He was incredibly responsive via email, and allowed us to explore a variety of options. We visited the city of Lusaka, 2 game parks, Victoria Falls, Johannesburg, and a Mozambique beach resort. Every step of the way went smoothly.I especially recommend South Luangwa and Lower Zambezi game parks for safari. We saw a wide range of game and our guides were knowledgeable. It was overall an amazing experience.

100% recommendation for your Zambia travels Robert arranged a two weeks photography tour for us, combining Wildlige and culture (Likumby Lya Mize and Nyau mask dances) and we enjoyed it a lot. He was extremely responsive to answer all our questions before the tour and arranged many extras that are, for photographers, of the utmost importance - private safari vehicles, full day game drives, efficient planning - making sure we didn‘t miss a thing! Also the recommended lodges were faultless. A special thanks to our driver, Kamara, who, with his professionalism and positive attitude, helped to overcome every small difficulty that we met during our overland travel days. The budget we gave was also respected and we got good value for our money. I give a 100% recommendation to this reputable Zambian owned company.

Absolutely Great Tour AZS organised a perfect customised tour for us, combining Victoria Falls and South Luangwa nature reserve. Everything went really smoothly from stepping off the plane at Livingstone, crossing the Zimbabwean border, internal Zambian flights, and selecting terrific Lodges. We were pleasantly surprised to be welcomed at Lusaka Airport as we connected to our flight to Mfuwe. Would thoroughly recommend - AZS were brilliant at rearranging everything when we had to delay our trip as well. Really good.

The most professional and trustworthy agent for safaris in Africa We have just returned from a wonderful 9 days’ trip in Zimbabwe which was recommended and well organized by Robert from Absolute Zambia Safaris. According to our budget and wishing list, Robert organized us to stay at two wonderful lodges each close to two different National Parks in Zimbabwe and last stop by Victoria Falls. I was lucky to have entrusted Robert to organize my first experience of safari at his own country ( 5 days’ Luangwa trip) in 2019. Same as before, we did not have to think about anything on this trip but enjoying every moment on our safaris, especially the sightings of white rhinos which we mostly interested in. All the arrangements were seamless with only one hiccup, it was not the fault of Robert or his team but the “Imvelo” whose tram services could not be resumed on the date as they had hoped. What a pity that we could not celebrate our special event on that tram as planned. Robert be given credit once again in this regard, he promptly negotiated with Imvelo who eventually compensated us a charter flight to Victoria Fall with no extra charge and had out luggage forwarded by road to our hotel on the same day. All the way through our return to the airport for our flight back home, definitely exceeded our expectations. Robert of Absolute Zambia Safaris was truly amazing and I wholeheartedly recommend him to those planning a trip in South Africa.

Another perfect holiday We were a party of eight, most of us on a return trip (last one in 2020 - also with Absolute Zambia Safaris) under the expert guidance of Robert. It was again a holiday without a single complaint. Pickups were reliable and punctual, the David Livingstone resort is perfectly located on the banks of the Zambezi with comfortable beds, sumptuous food, an infinity pool, and an unlimited supply of food and drinks on the silent but spacious sunset cruise. Robert (from Absolute Zambia Safaris) dealt with all our changes, additions, amendments, and cancellations with endless patience and understanding. It was a perfect holiday, we will be back. Thank you Absolute Zambia Safaris.
