Mosi-oa-Tunya, The Smoke That Thunders, Natural Wonder of the World
Mosi-oa-Tunya, as it’s known by the local Kolobo Tribe, meaning “the smoke that thunders” and the name couldn’t be more fitting! Victoria Falls, as it’s better known internationally, is a sight to behold, with water plummeting over 100 meters across an almost 2km wide ravine, with towers of spray viewable from miles away. It is a true showing of nature’s power and nobody can deny why it’s classed as one of the seven natural wonders of the world. A must see for anyone!
The falls may be what brings you to the area, but it’s not the only thing to experience in the area! Mosi-oa-Tunya National Park is adjacent to the falls and has great game drives available to pair with the falls. A highlight of the national park is the white rhinos, but there’s also elephants, giraffes, lions and various antelope to see there too.
It’s also likely that you’ll be staying in Livingstone, the closest city to Victoria Falls, and the city itself has plenty to do and explore too, from African markets and cultural villages, to dinner on the famous Royal Livingstone express.
