About South Luangwa National Park:
Day 1 – 4: Lion Camp, South Luangwa National Park
You will do your unforgettable South Luangwa safari from the comfort of in the absence of fences, the game moves freely through the camp. With a healthy population of lion, leopard, buffalo and giraffe in the immediate area, and elephant, hippo, bushbuck, and antelope regularly seen within the camp, you will not be disappointed.
The main area has additional space and lighter. As before, the hub of camp is a well-stocked bar and our redesigned boma will be a draw for chilly mornings and for sharing after-dinner stories around the fire. The pool remains a central feature of the large front deck which provides a perfect game viewing platform whilst also appealing to both day-time sun worshippers and night-time stargazers.
There are a variety of areas to relax and unwind. Our gift shop provides a range of products – all made locally and of the highest quality – perfect mementos from a memorable stay.
All the rooms have been designed to maximize the views. We have eight luxury rooms that are available as doubles or twins and can be adapted to accommodate one child as a triple. During the day, the netting at the front of the bedroom can be rolled up to access a shaded private deck directly from the room. Bathrooms are off to the side to provide more privacy, whilst ensuring an unobstructed view out. Our luxury rooms retain the essential ‘tree house’ aesthetic, with canvas walls and thatch roof, but with even more comfort – Evening Breeze cooling units will be installed over the beds. In addition, our new water filtration system ensures crystal clear pressurized showers and solar provide all our power. 220V inverter power is available with Wi-Fi in the rooms.
At some stage in the morning on this day, you will be transferred to Mfuwe Airport for your onward flight to Royal Airstrip. On arrival at Royal Airstrip, you will be met by a representative from Chongwe River Camp who will help you with your luggage and transfer you to Chongwe River Camp which shall be your home for the next 3 nights in Zambia.
Day 4 -7: Chongwe River Camp, Lower Zambezi National Park
Set on the western bank of the Chongwe River, which acts as the boundary to the National park this is a wonderful camp. Its location on the smaller tributary just a few hundred meters up from the confluence with the main Zambezi River adds to its attraction. We feel the location also it adds a certain amount of intimacy to the camp to be able to see the other side of the Chongwe which at this point is probably just 50mts across as opposed to being on the main course of the Zambezi River which is really a very large and on occasions quite daunting river.
There are 8 standard tents spread along the bank of the river, which are modest when compared with some other tented camps but comfortable none the less with outside bathrooms behind. The cost of this camp is one of its most attractive features because most of the camps in the Park or its immediate environs have steadily increased their rates over the years making the Lower Zambezi an expensive destination. Chongwe and a couple of its neighbors, however, bring this wonderful destination within the grasp of some guests that may otherwise not have afforded to see the area. There are two suites at Chongwe, the Albida suite with 2 rooms and the Acacia Suite with just 1 room, which are priced a little more expensively but they really are quite stunning suites on a par with anything you will find throughout Zambia.
- 9 standard safari tents with thatched roofs, each with en-suite, open-air bathrooms.
- Plus, the Albida Suite which sleeps 4 – ideal for families or friends, has own pool
- And the Cassia Suite which sleeps 2 perfects for honeymooners, has own pool
- Open 1st April to 15th November
- Children 12 years and older welcome
