Situated on the west of the Nankumba Peninsula the south of Lake Malawi you can spot Pumulani subtly snuggled in the lush hills in the trees and rugged outcrops. Ten villas accommodate the ultimate in space, privacy design, and comfort.
The lodge: Luxury accommodation, friendly personal services and stunning views over Lake Malawi combine to make Pumulani the perfect African beach lodge. Dutch architect G. Hooft Graafland designed each of the ten villas separately adapting them to their location to ensure they blend into their different environment. The gently curving lines of the substantial dwellings reflect the patterns and actions of the lake forward with the interior design, which is directly inspired by the surrounding nature.
Every villa has a large bedroom, which opens out onto a secluded deck where front risers can experience the morning’s first rays. The bathrooms also offer excellent views and are well equipped with a bathtub, double shower, and double sink, and the spacious lounge offers area further comfort for those wishing to relax in the room.
The primary area consists of a large open restaurant with an undercover area, bar, and a cozy fire area. Our infinity swimming pools are on a deck. Three elevated walkways with steps lead off from the central region to the villas and down to the beach and our other infinity swimming pool. Pumulani implies “rest well” in the local Chichewa language, and that’s precisely what we offer – the chance to relax in a beautiful and peaceful setting.
On the water
Our 40ft traditional, handcrafted dhow is a slow and relaxing way to enjoy the tranquility of Lake Malawi. Whether it be on an early morning breakfast cruise or a magical sunset cruise. Our two speedboats can whisk you around the lake with various water activities such as water-skiing, wakeboarding, and tubing. Alternatively, an exciting drive to isolated spots where you can jump out the boat and snorkel or dive catching the clouds of tropical fish that inhabit the water. For the more expert sailors, we have two things which are great fun to nip around the lake.
