Takwela Camp, North Luangwa National Park
Takwela Camp, the latest camp operated by Remote Africa Safaris, opened in July 2019 in North Luangwa. The North Luangwa is a remote and well-managed park that enjoys significant support from the Frankfurt Zoological Society and a highly motivated complement of staff from Zambia’s Department of National Parks and Wildlife and North Luangwa Conservation Project.
Situated on Remote Africa’s private land at the confluence of the Luangwa and Mwaleshi Rivers, Takwela has stunning views across a resident hippo pod to the pristine bush on all sides. The area is known as ‘Chitukuko’ which means ‘place of development’ in the local Tumbuka dialect. ‘Takwela means, ‘we have taken off’, an apt name for our expansion in the North Luangwa.
Takwela offers an intimate wilderness experience and the rare opportunity to visit a beautiful and unexplored area of the North Luangwa. Whilst the floodplain is not as extensive as in the mid-Luangwa, it is still a prime wildlife country and will produce excellent viewing as wildlife become more accustomed to our presence. By its remoteness, guests will virtually have exclusive access to over 50kms of Luangwa River frontage!
Operating season: 15 Jun – 31 Oct |2 chalets (2 twin doubles) | Minimum age 12 years (8 years from 2021)
Zikomo Safari Camp, South Luangwa National Park (Nsefu Sector)
Zikomo Safari is in Zambia, across the river from South Luangwa National Park. It is set amidst an ancient valley filled with diverse African wildlife. This peaceful eco-lodge in the African bush offers spacious accommodations: comfortable handcrafted chalets, or if you are self-driving, an expansive campground on the riverbank.
Our Main Block offers a fine restaurant, bar and gathering place overlooking the swimming pool and the sprawling flood plain of the tranquil hippo filled Luangwa River.
True African Style, only a forty-five (45) minute drive from Mfuwe International Airport, this affordable eco-lodge is in an area away from other safari lodges, camps and accommodations. Zikomo Safari camp is spread under a canopy of enormous shade trees on the banks of the Luangwa River. Zikomo’ s placement in the isolated Nsefu sector allows guests immediate access to one of the least crowded and most wildlife-rich areas in the world.
