Day 2- 7
Photography Safari - South Luangwa NP
You will have seven full days to explore South Luangwa National Park on immersive photographic safari experiences, with a strong focus on capturing wildlife in the best natural light and environments. Each day follows a well-paced structure, allowing for both intensive game viewing and time to relax, review, and refine your photography.
Begin your day with an early wake-up call at around 05:15, followed by a light breakfast at the lodge. Shortly after, you will depart for the park, entering as the gates open. The early morning game drive (approximately 06:00 – 10:00) is one of the most rewarding times for photography, as wildlife is most active and the soft golden light creates ideal conditions for capturing predators, elephants, and birdlife along the Luangwa River and surrounding plains.
After a productive morning, return to the lodge for a late brunch around 11:30, followed by time to rest and escape the midday heat. This break also provides an opportunity to review your images, adjust camera settings, and discuss techniques or sightings with your guide, helping you improve your overall wildlife photography skills.
During the early afternoon (12:30 -15:00), you can enjoy free time at the lodge. This is a good moment to relax, or casually photograph wildlife and birds that frequent the lodge surroundings, offering more natural and intimate compositions.
In the afternoon, gather for tea, coffee, and a short briefing around 15:00, where your guide will outline the plan for the next drive, often tailoring it to your interests or specific photographic goals. You will then head out for your afternoon game drive at approximately 15:30, as temperatures cool and wildlife becomes active once again.
As the light softens, you will stop at a scenic location within the park to enjoy a classic sundowner experience around 18:00, capturing the warm tones of the African sunset. The safari then continues into a night game drive, a unique highlight of South Luangwa. With the aid of a spotlight and expert tracking, you will have the chance to photograph nocturnal species such as leopards, genets, civets, and owls-an experience that sets this park apart as one of the best wildlife photography destinations in Africa.
You will return to the lodge at around 19:30, with time to freshen up before a three-course dinner served at approximately 20:30. Evenings are relaxed, allowing you to unwind or continue reviewing your images, ensuring each day builds on your experience and results in a rewarding and well-rounded Zambia safari photography journey.
Note: Two of these days, you will go on full-day private game drives.
